Okay. One aspect of Bridgertons and diversity discourse has really been bugging me so I have to say this: the idea that Black romance writers needed a book by a white author (with white characters in the original book!) to open doors for us is extremely fucked up.

There is a pervasive idea that there is a hierarchy of who should be the « first » to open doors, and who should follow them through it once it’s cracked. Please take a minute and think about how fucked up and insulting this is.
