a brief thread of some of my favourite gargoyles and grotesques:
this bat at christchurch priory
this crone at brasenose college oxford
traditional welsh female dress at Aberystwyth
an absolute classic at Notre Dame (anyone know if he survived the fire?)
Tweedledee and Tweedledum! Old Bod, Oxford
a pig playing the bagpipes and another wearing a tiara, both Melrose Abbey Scotland
Paisley Abbey coming in with the creepy factor
palate cleanser, two extremely good cattos both at Washington DC Cathedral
YOGA (magd college oxford)
why have the water come out your mouth when it can come out your butt (also magd college)
GATOR (magdalen also sorry not sorry)
projectile water coming out the butt I guess, Freiburg Cathedral
Salaman Cathedral!
specifically the unicorn but this is the best photo I could find, Univ College Oxford
quick nobody's looking. Ely Cathedral
cerberus but make it humanish. Bayeux Cathedral.
both lincoln cathedral! the imp on the left is purportedly a real demon that got frozen into stone. the one on the right is just hella applicable to everything
Chapelle de Bethleem, Nantes. This one is extra funny because isn't the first rule that you don't let them come into contact with water?
The Green Man at Fountains Abbey. I may or may not have a replica of this above my altar at home (spoiler i absolutely do).
Lincoln College Ox. for some reason this is incredibly creepy to me? i love it
one way to trim your toenails. Rufford Abbey!
an entire 2021 mood. St Giles Wrexham
Paisley Abbey, because if the Grim Reaper is gonna exist it might as well be a cat.
And we're gonna end with this masterpiece of the Archbishop of York at Selby.
anyways those are some of my faves; please feel free to add your own, i love a good gargoyle/grotesque
(gargoyles have waterspouts/drain water; grotesques do not. this is my pedantic calvary, sorry)
