The FA has failed in its attempt to revise the dates of Kieran Trippier’s betting suspension, meaning he could continue playing for Atletico Madrid throughout his entire 10-week ban. The written reasons for the decision are available here: https://the-fa.com/6bDFKC .

Thread below.
1) Once the Regulatory Commission handed down its decision to ban KT for 10 weeks, the FA had to write to FIFA to invite FIFA to give worldwide effect to the suspension. FIFA's determination was required to ensure the suspension had effect in Spain, where KT currently plays.
2) After FIFA gave the suspension worldwide effect, Atletico Madrid subsequently applied to FIFA to suspend the sanction pending an appeal, which FIFA agreed to. Notably, KT has played no part in Atletico's appeal and did not consent to it.
3) The effect of FIFA's decision to provisionally suspend the worldwide effect of the ban is that, whilst KT's 10-week suspension continues to run in England, he is nevertheless free to continue playing for Atletico Madrid because they sit outside of the FA's jurisdiction.
4) The FA therefore wrote to the Regulatory Commission inviting it to revise the dates of KT's ban “so that KT’s 10-week suspension will take effect from the earlier of (i) KT’s return to the jurisdiction of the FA or (ii) the lifting of the interim measures granted by FIFA”.
5) The Regulatory Commission ultimately ruled that it does not have the power to revise the dates of his ban (21 December - 28 February). And even if it did have the power, the Commission concluded that it wouldn't have used it in any event.
6) The Commission was persuaded that the current ban, whilst not currently preventing KT from playing for Atletico, is nevertheless "impeding his prospects of being transferred to an English club during the current transfer window very substantially".
7) The Commission urged FIFA to resolve the matter quickly - "there is a very real benefit to football worldwide in resolving as quickly possible whether it is open to clubs to intervene as Atletico has done in this case in the absence of its player’s consent...
and, indeed, against his wishes when such intervention might be viewed as frustrating the outcome of national disciplinary processes and the ability of FIFA to give effect to those outcomes world-wide."
