A thread of tips for others who might have or has gambling issues, especially when it comes to gacha games!
Please note that none of these tips are guaranteed to help, but it's things that has helped me, so pls don't expect things to change immediately, but I do hope they'll help!
1. A great reminder to me is to ask myself "do I enjoy this game only if I make purchases?" or "will the game only be more fun if I have to pay all the time?". A game should make you happy, you can obviously do in-game payments at times, but once you realise that you only do-
Truly enjoy the game when you pay, then that's a bad sign. I know it's easier said than done, but no game should make you have to feel the need to constantly spend your money to enjoy it. Questioning yourself when playing does help me, and made me drop some old games!
2. Gacha games are made mostly for the purpose to make you spend money!! Almost all of them are made to make you feel the need to spend money on in-game purchases, one way or another. A pretty card, a cool character, anything! They're made to make you want it more! And it's hard-
To not "want" it, and personally, I used to almost always give in one way or another, but trust me, the money you have can be spent maybe once in a while for minor purchases or maybe if given a gift, you can do a purchase!! But if you realise that you want to do it again or-
Aren't satisfied with what you spent already, then that is a major red flag! To pay once and then want to pay more to get even more, especially when it's bigger payments, is a big waving flag, and you should definitely try to take a break from the game if possible, since that-
WILL lead to more purchases. And thinking that "maybe if I just pay once" can become "one more time won't hurt!" Until you might come to the point where you might struggle big time with finances!
3. Sometimes, there is a really cool banner or limited event, and you really want that card or character right? A very common thing in gacha games is that most limited banners DO have a return, whether it's in half a year, 1 year or 2 years, they often do have a rerun! So-
Unless it's guaranteed that it will NEVER EVER come back, don't worry too much about it! It's easier said than done, and they can be so tempting, but just doing what you can is enough, and who knows, maybe next time when using what you gained from the game itself, maybe you'll-
Get something even cooler!! I know it's easier said than done, again, but it won't be the end of the world, even if it can feel like that, and usually, something cool will come next or you will get another chance!
4. If possible, ask someone you trust to stop you, or tell them about your issue! Gambling addictions can cause you lots of issues, and having someone to stop you when you feel like giving in can help! I had a relative stopping me, which helped whenever I wanted to do a payment-
And it also made me realise that I managed to save up more money than I had before, when I didn't bother to handle the issue. My last major payment in-game was in November I think, which was money I got as a gift, and I haven't done a payment for in-game stuff that is over-
