It is incredibly dishonest, disrespectful, and unloving to ask people who have been harmed in a society to compromise with people who do not love them, deny their equality and full humanity, and support people & policies that continue to scream at them: your life does not matter!
To think that compromise will save people who are caught under the profound delusion of white supremacy is to believe the lie that that white comfort matters more than non-white freedom. Those committed to white supremacy do not want salvation. They only want one thing: power.
Compromise works when people are equally committed to truth-telling, our collective liberation, and doing right by others out of love. Anything less than that continues to perpetuate a given system of injustice that benefits one group over the other. It changes nothing.
You cannot ask those who are harmed in a society to unify and compromise with people committed to the principles of white supremacy, misogyny, exploitation, hatred, and deceit over the principles of love, freedom, justice, and democracy. That is neither right nor Christian.
When Jesus called us to love, he was not telling us to deny loving ourselves to love others. He called us to loving ourselves while loving others. Compromise with those who do not care love you or heal you is not an expression of faith, it is an expression of self-hatred. Period.
It neither sets you free nor helps you live. It neither bring change nor the possibility of better. It is not an expression of the liberating news of the gospel, but of the oppressive politics of the empire. Jesus wants us unified, yes, but more than that, he wants us loved.
