As someone who is part of the Pentecostal movement, I believe in the on-going revelation of God via the gifts of the Spirit, including the gift of prophecy. Jesus is central to this task. If the spirit of the prophecy contradicts the teachings and ministry of Jesus, then it is false. Unfortunately, many modern-day prophets don't like Jesus. They consider him weak. So, they go to the OT images of kings, violence, & holy wars.
They add to their OT images of warrior God, a misunderstood vision of Jesus in the book of Revelation. I pray for a cleansing fire to sweep our tradition, beginning with me. Love, humility, the way of the cross. As part of this movement, I wish to say, "I'm sorry. Forgive us."
