Awesome thread by the fabulous @acweyand. Let me pan out and say, women in general are not informed as to what’s normal about their bodies, & GENERATIONS of women perpetuate the ideas of *normal* & suffer in silence due to their own lack of information or dismissal from medicine https://twitter.com/acweyand/status/1217584193070411777
2/ See:
- Periods
- Pregnancy
- Postpartum (ALL OF IT)
- Breastfeeding
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Incontinence
- Anxiety/Depression
- Autoimmune conditions/ Chronic diseases
- Pain
- Menopause

These topics are also often very vulnerable & sensitive with shame/stigma attached
This is then compounded by the paternalism, sexism, bias, and systemic/individual racism baked into medicine. Toxicity perpetuated through medical training. As well the intrinsic failures of our broken healthcare system at baseline.

4/ Nursing is CERTAINLY involved & has a whole litany of issues that need to be reckoned with (centering white women with collegiate degrees) inherent to our founding as a profession. @mclemoremr @UMassWalker @NursePatMacRN @drannamvaldez @DrTiffMonique @iamn0tthe1 @kimacquaviva
