Over the last few days of the #MotherandBabyHome report I have been troubled by the states failure in its duty of care to its citizens.
19 years ago this week my mother lost her battle with #Depression and took her own life #Suicide
2/
This represented another ongoing failure of state & society in how #MentalHealth is treated in our country. Which this year more than ever with #Covid needs highlighting.
3/Last month i walked away from a job of 5 years. Partially because shortly before this a strong young person left when after reporting a mental health issue to our employer they were left feeling intimidated & bullied. "A mental health issue is not a valid reason for absence"
4/
They were the 3rd such vulnerable young person to leave in such a manner this year. I don't fault the individual managers i fault the system that fails to teach and prepare them on how to deal with #MentalHealth issues.
5/
I myself have suffered from stress leading to 2 seizures and Anxiety attacks. That were so frequent i became able to hide them when in the same room as people as if i was fine this past year.
6/
Luckily these were only minor & since my departure from my former job they have disappeared. And i was fortunate enough to have the unknowing support of my family, 2 incredibly caring people in work SB & AR & the 3 men below who i can only describe as my brothers.
