//THREAD\\\\ Deebo Samuel —
By popular demand, Deebo is my next injury project for this offseason.
The polarizing YAC
is in FF purgatory right now. Managers don’t know if they should sell or hold.
Let’s take a look from an injury perspective.

First off, check the video here.
Muschamp states, “This started in high school for him..” referring to Deebo’s hamstring injuries.
I was unable to find any documented HS hamstring strains (which side was involved), but this is important.
Since chronic... https://twitter.com/RLeCompteTV/status/778323877264891905
..we have to consider that Deebo may very well end up dealing with tendinosis, or degenerative tissue.
Documented HS strains+ how long he was out:
•2015 (7 games)
•2016 (3 gm)
•2020 Wk7 (3 gm)
•2020 Wk14 (last 3 gms)

Concern level: Moderate.
It’s well documented that reinjury rates of HS strains
from 22-34% if not higher with every recurrence.
•Deebo has stated this is his offseason focus, to properly train..

..his body to sustain the workload of the NFL over a season.
We saw something similar w/ Randall Cobb, who dealt w/ chronic HS injuries in his career but finally had a HS-injury-free season in 2019 after changing his training.
One can hope this is what Deebo does this..

I’m not reading into 2020 as much, given we expected a rise in soft tissue injuries (esp those with prior injuries) due to the short camp/COVID factor.
If Deebo trains well this offseason, he can put these recent HS strains behind him.

2017, surgery to repair a fractured distal fibula. Missed final 10 games of his Junior Yr.
No long term concern here. These typical heal well upon repair.

June 2020. Costed Deebo all of camp, as well as the first 3 games of 2020. The long term re-injury risk significantly drops if the player waits to return to sport until at least 10 weeks. Risk drops further once you get to 12+ weeks post-surgery.. https://twitter.com/jmthrivept/status/1304882675832877056
.. Deebo returned roughly 15 weeks post-surgery.
I believe he/49ers did it the right way, allowing the repair to fully heal, with low risk of long term reinjury of his Left foot.
I am more concerned about the hamstrings than I am the foot or fibula.

• Deebo Samuel = YAC
It is PRETTY DARN ridiculous what Deebo was able to accomplish this year in YAC, considering he only played 7 games (& 1 of those games included just 1 snap before leaving with his 2nd hamstring injury).

..all of the NFL teams.
My future projections:
•George Kittle receives 6-8 Tgt/Gm
•Brandon Aiyuk leads the team in targets overall, but may disappear a few games = Alpha WR
•Deebo Samuel:
Manufactured a minimum 5 touches per game (rushes, slants, behind LOS targets, etc)..

..Deebo is Shanahan’s X-factor. The player who he wants to get the ball in his hands & just let him work.
He can do a lot with a little.
This is where I see the offense going.
If QB is Jimmy G = Offense is capped
If QB upgrade = Offense

Just. Get. Him. The. Ball.

•Hamstrings — soft tissue injuries = re-injury risk
•Recurrence rate with long history of hamstring injuries (HS, College, Pros) presents risk
•Might miss 2-3 gm/yr
(1/ )

•Deebo is a perfect WR3 in Dyno. Prepare for him to miss a few games. Steady production in games he plays.
•He is CHEAP rn
