There's a paradigm shift happening at QB and I do think Tua Tagovailoa is somewhat caught up in it.
Technical savants who once dominated are in sunset, while the physically gorgeous (i.e. arm power, athleticism, size) are reaching their zenith.

People hated Josh Allen venomously. He was hot garbage, the perfect example of everything the NFL does in scouting the QB position that the smartest-guys-in-the-room all know is dog dumb.
Now he's awesome? That amount of cognitive dissonance could pull moons out of orbit.

To a lesser degree the same is true of Justin Herbert. He wasn't really hated the way Allen was, but we were still stuck on "it" factor guys, the accuracy savants, like Tua and Burrow. Now Herbert is awesome as a rookie. What is he? Body beautiful with a railgun on his shoulders.
And of course, Mahomes sits on the throne. Best QB in football. He wasn't well loved either. When he fell to 10 it's not like the world was up in arms about it. Some of us had him #1 overall, but definitely in the minority. Trubisky, now THERE's the guy who has "it", amirite?
Other controversial, highly athletic QBs like Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Kyler Murray continue to drive defenses crazy. The original physical phenom Aaron Rodgers is having a career year. Ryan Tannehill (did you know he used to play WR?) is awesome for a 2nd consecutive year.
And all this is happening while the sun sets on guys like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Phil Rivers, and Matt Ryan. Minshew has gone from manic to depressive. Jimmy Garoppolo is quickly becoming not a thing anymore. Even Minnesotans seem to dislike Kirk Cousins.
I think it'd be foolish to see all this and not think there's a paradigm shift in the works causing people to shorten their fuse on a guy like Tua Tagovailoa, who was very much a technical/accuracy savant, does not have skill position athleticism, and has never had a cannon arm.
What does this all mean? Has the NFL changed? Can anyone trying to be the next Drew Brees actually be the next Drew Brees? Is that even possible anymore? I don't know the answer to that. I tend to think it's cyclical, but what do I know?
In my perception, every position, physical phenoms tend to impress early. Their physical gifts give smart coaches easy things to build off. The ones who have to get by being one step ahead of everyone may start out slower, because as a rookie you're not one step ahead of anybody.
Is that what's happening to Tua? The irony is he actually did have a pretty good rookie year. Because of {{{reasons}}}, it's not mattering to a lot of people, including some of the so-called 'brothers' in his own locker room. I think this paradigm shift plays its part.
