I normally try not to post about trash like this, but this article from THE FEDERALIST goes a long way to explaining right-wing violence in America.
The very *presence* of non-right-wingers is treated as not only illegitimate, but a threat. https://thefederalist.com/2021/01/13/leftists-are-colonizing-red-towns-like-mine-and-local-republicans-are-clueless/#.YABVW6iGE9A.twitter

(Let's also not overlook the irony of rightists complain about being "colonized.")
But there's actually cause for optimism after reading this article, because the author is genuinely freaked out about "leftist educators" winning school election board races, which is EXACTLY the way the right built and wielded power in the late 20th century.
And he knows it.
And he knows it.
He's also just a miserable bastard who's angry that his own Republican mayor has tried to do something constructive about the opioid crisis.
All of which raises another point. The author, Mark Pulliam, who is so goddamn angry that the leftists have come to HIS small quiet community of Maryville, TN, is not actually FROM Maryville, TN.
He relocated from Austin, Texas by his own admission.
He relocated from Austin, Texas by his own admission.
So, basically, he's pissed off that the Nashville suburb he moved to doesn't live up to his expectations about it being a right-wing utopia.
A quick Google search shows that Pulliam is a corporate lawyer, Federalist Society member, and already relocated from California to Texas to escape the rising tide of... leftism on the West Coast.
