The Second Medical Mycologist Trainee Seminar is today at 11am EST, 4pm GST! We've got two great speakers: @caipcoelho on #fungal-host interactions & @mgblango on #RNA approaches to antifungals. Next month, we'd love to hear from you! Send abstracts here http://bit.ly/39fWNWQ https://twitter.com/BrownLabUtah/status/1346523112276299777
Starting us off, Matthew Blango is telling us about his brand new lab and their efforts to understand whether RNAi can be leveraged for RNA based anti-fungals http://bit.ly/39fWNWQ
You can find out more about the Blango lab here https://blangolab.com/
You can read more about how host Extracellular Vessicles block Aspergillus pathogenesis here https://mbio.asm.org/content/11/2/e00596-20.long
Now MMTSS committee member @marclrodrigues is introducing our next speaker, Carolina Coelho @caipcoelho, who is speaking about “the best model ever”, #cryptococcus - host interactions
Carolina shares her exploring how cryptococcus infects and invades tissue https://msphere.asm.org/content/4/4/e00483-19
She shows that urease supports growth in mammalian pH but is dispensable within macrophages https://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1007144
Importantly, these data from Carolina Coelho closely model what veterinarians observe in animal infections and may also more closely model infection in humans
If you want a chance to work with @caipcoelho, PhD and Mres openings are available! https://www.exeter.ac.uk/medicalmycology/training/vision/
We heard about Aspergillus and Cryptococcus today- but the Candida and Candidiasis meeting has gone virtual March 21-27. You can find register here http://bit.ly/3icOCi0
