#Rockets morning thoughts:

Although I’m excited to a point about what the Rockets may accomplish with this new roster, there is still a pit in my stomach related to #Tilman.

Let me be blunt here: he f***ed up and started the chain of events that led to Harden trade.

1/11
- Not at least approaching Trevor Ariza and discussing a re-signing. Even if you still let him walk it was disrespectful to the core not to allow Morey to engage in talks
- staling the MDA talks and talking out of both sides of his mouth about retaining him.....

2/11
... the issue is the same as Ariza’s deal, but I think he should’ve just fired MDA and let him and his coaching staff move on sooner instead of leaving him in limbo for a year.
- Not bringing in the best players and constant need to cut salary. Put a pin in this one.

3/11
- His constant need to run his mouth. I’ve discussed this before and to be completely fair he has been better about this during this season so far.

This is not trying to take away from what Harden did btw. I think it was toxic to have a star so imbedded in the...

4/11
... roster decisions related to the team. And that led to a lot of moves and decisions that hurt the franchise. There is no doubt about that. And I think the way the team handled the Harden issues since he actively started sabotaging was commendable.

But.

5/11
- We know that Tilman leaked that Harden wanted a trade. Who knows why but that was unnecessary. And probably led to Harden believing there were “unreconcilable differences”.
- Tilman has never, ever showed that he’s willing to pay to add that additional piece needed to...

6/11
... improve the roster. Hell, you could say that he had an opportunity to bring in young talent (including Simmons) during the Harden trade, and instead forced tax cutting. ~$9M dollars of it. I’m not saying he should be spending after letting go of Harden, but to not...

7/11
... bring in more young talent, besides Victor Oladipo who may be a rental at best, is disappointing.

And based on his restaurant record Tilman may continue these cost cutting moves.

I hope that Tilman has learnt some lessons with how he handled the Harden situation...

8/11
... and his first 3 years of ownership of the Houston Rockets. I hope that he gives Rafael Stone (who has done a remarkable job so far) the ability to mold the roster in a way Morey was not fully able to during his time as GM.

And I sincerely hope that if/when the...

9/11
... future Rockets franchise star emerges, whether it’s organically through our G-League system or through trade, he’s willing to allow his GM to put the pieces together to fully support that star.

Even if it means living as an above luxury tax team for a season or two.

10/11
But for now I don’t have my hopes up too much, but I will give Tilman the benefit of the doubt. He has put in place a GM and coach who genuinely seem outstanding at their jobs. I hope that he doesn’t break their confidence in the team by his cheapness and micromanagement.
