Let’s talk about #vision. I am a high myope (contacts = -9.50) and have an irregular astigmatism in both eyes. Without my glasses, I can see colors and shapes but I must feel around for things. I can’t even see my glasses on the bedside table when I kneel down next to it.
Yesterday, I had my annual two-hour check-up. As my vision has worsened over the years (I have a lot of difficulty reading at night now), I have become increasingly aware of how privileged I am to have a health plan that covers my very expensive medically necessary contacts.
The fact is that many Americans with impaired vision aren’t so fortunate. They don’t have the coverage to provide them with tools that they need to be able to see and function in daily life. I cannot express how difficult it is to do even the simplest tasks when you cannot see.
All Americans, frankly everyone on this planet, should be given the help they need to be able to see and function in this world. It hurts my heart that there is anyone suffering with impaired vision when in many cases we have the technology to help.
We need @congressdotgov to act to ensure that all Americans have the vision coverage that they need. Cc: @RepBalderson @senrobportman @SenSherrodBrown
