I have way too many thoughts on this idea by @oneunderscore__ and will spare you most of them.

But as a recovering addict, I have to say: this won’t work. /1 https://twitter.com/oneunderscore__/status/1349505435506778112
You can easily enable destructive, awful behavior by being too eager to bring the perpetrators of that behavior back into the fold. Wanting to change has to come from THEM. (Or back in the day, ME.) And it still might not work if the addiction is strong enough. /2
I’m sure @oneunderscore__ is coming from a place of compassion, but it feels misdirected to me. Victims of historical racism, material deprivation, the pandemic and so many others need to go to the front of the line for radical compassion right now. /3
This country has habitually rushed to forgive then even praise white people who have committed heinous crimes. And immediately embraced their ardent supporters. Even when little or no remorse has been shown.

Let’s not do that. It’s morally warped and it DOESN’T WORK. /4
If family or friends you once had a loving relationship with got way into Trumpist white fascism and broke that, it is not on you to fix it.

If they approach with genuine contrition and a desire to make amends, maybe you can build from there. But NOT before that. Won’t work! /5
I’ll add - @oneunderscore__ seems to assume that this movement is over because Trump is leaving office. I see no evidence of that. It’s part of a white supremacism that long predates Trump. Being too blasé about that seems way more dangerous than being too harsh right now. /6
