How does the number of people going into work compare to earlier in the year?

New ONS data allows a comparison between late December and early June (the earliest comparable data, around the time lockdown began to be eased).

In June, 30% of workforce furloughed. In Dec, 14%.
A really striking stat from the latest ONS data is the percentage of construction workers furloughed. In June, it was around 30 per cent. In December, it was just 3 per cent.
It's not just that less people are furloughed than in June, but that more people are in their normal place of work.

In June, 35% of the workforce across all industries were at their normal place of work. In December, it's half (51%).
It's clear from these latest stats that less people are furloughed and more people are going into work as normal.

This might change given that the latest stats are from pre-lockdown (but when it was heavily tiered). However, we didn't see a big rise in furlough in Nov lockdown.
It's not people going for walks that's spreading the virus, it's people going to unsafe workplaces.

Government must strengthen health & safety guidance and properly enforce it. It must also raise & expand statutory sick pay so everyone can afford to self isolate.
