2021 Expected Goal Rates

Friends, we're back.

Here, you're looking at the rate at which teams created shot quality (expected goals for) vs the rate of expected goals they allowed against. This is 5v5.

These views are powered by data via http://moneypuck.com .

And we're off!
PDO

On the horizontal axis, we can see each team's shooting percentage (5v5). On the vertical, team save percentage. Teams can enjoy (or suffer) results far from average for a while. But, over time, teams usually drift back towards the average lines.
Quality per shot

Here, we can look at the average quality of shots taken and allowed, regardless of the total number of shots for/against.

MTL tends to be good at getting lots of shots while staying high-quality too.

COL had a tendency to do this low-quality shot thing too.
It'll take a few days of data for things to look right and I'm moving things around on http://chartinghockey.ca  now to make room.

Have a look around! Lots to come.
Expected win%

We're at a one (1) game sample for ten teams, so we'll have to be patient before any takeaways take shape.

At the same time, MTL's in its usual spot already.
Hey, PIT deserved to win that one. MTL too.
