During my internship, my team was called to fix a chest tube in a woman that had excess fluid in her chest, a condition called "Pleural Effusion"

It was my turn, so my "chief" had already prepped me,i was just about to make one incision and boom...Woman slumped!

#OdogwuTales
We were in the medical A/E and this woman needed oxygen, all the oxygen cylinders in the A/E was busy, the patients on them were also critical and needed them too...

She later died and her relatives almost attacked me saying "I killed her"

I was scared of anything surgical...😷
So I didn't cut nor stitch anything till I finished my internship but I knew as a "medical officer" I needed to learn how to stitch atleast because of emergencies...

So with the help of "Youtube", I started practicing with foam, I would pick equipments for stitching from the...
theatre, stay in the call room and I keep watching these videos, stitching up torn apart foams every single day in preparation...

As an M.O, I'm the one in charge, there was no chief to call when emergencies show up so I had to man up and learn and omoh the D-day later came...
I was in the office when these 2 exotic cars drove in, father and mother in 2 cars with their 8yr old girl with a very deep cut on her forehead...

Parents were learned and I know if I mess up their babies head, they will sue me and my virgin license 😭😭😭
The nurse on duty didn't know I've not sutured before and was like "Docki should I set up the theatre"

I said yes...and we entered together with her father who insisted...i was like, "Nelson you don enter one chance today"

It was a deep cut and need to be stitched in 2 layers..
I slowly wore my gloves and at that moment all the videos and rehearsals I've been doing started playing in my head...

By the time I was done...
Nurse: Docki your suturing neat ooo
Dad: Doc, I'm really impressed, thanks alot...

The wound healed with one thin straight line...😏
So why this thread, I'm not a huge fan of the term "LUCK"

For me Luck is and will always be preparation meeting the moment of opportunity.

If I wasn't prepared, if I had not been training myself all these while, there is no luck on earth that would have helped me that night.
There is no luck without you being prepared to handle that moment of opportunity.

Don't blame "Luck" for not being a success, instead prepare yourself and equip yourself so that when the opportunity comes...you won't need luck to make it.

Don't blame "Luck" for your misfortune!
I don't want to live a life of luck, i want to be prepared when my opportunity comes knocking on my door!!!
