SBS Gayo Daejun 2020 Black Swan : While we've seen several performances of Black Swan during the last months, this one struck as very particular to me.

There are 2 distinct aspects of the background we have in this performance that are depicted in the background... and the are intertwined throughout the performance: Winter and Fire, or rather fire consequences.
Watch it again if you have not:

Most of the Black Swan performances have had a visual representation of a lake. A reminder of Swan Lake? Probably.
The first performance in the Late Late Show had that lake already, but while water was flowing, the trees in the background were already dead.

Remember the MMA Black Swan performance? While the trees are still green, ice is starting to come in... The background is gradually freezing as winter arrives.

In latest Black Swan performance, the lake is frozen. It's winter time. There is snow around the lake. Not surprising for a Dec 25 performance with bells tinkling when the song starts.
The trees are bare, but there is something weird. They are black... charred trees?

Not only do the trees seemed to have been burnt, but there is actually soot falling down! You can see it falling and floating around in the first half of the song and it is not snow.

The comeback stage we had for Black Swan had similar "soot". The background looked like it had been burnt down but instead of soot/ashes falling to the ground, it was black feathers.

This also ties down to the visual in the album concept photos, "Desire For Perfection". A dark charred room with that huge hole in the middle...

I think it is linked to fire and calcination, the first step towards rebirth.

Back to this Black Swan performance. The soot gradually turns to white sparkling snow, reflecting in that lake.
Back to normal? Maybe. Or it could be part of the cycle that leads to rebirth...

Why the frozen lake then? Have we seen it before?
Yes! In the VCR that started the comeback show (20/02/27), just before Black Swan, there was a Narcissus painting that got frozen as Narcissus looked at his reflection in the lake...

Singularity is the only song that mentions a "frozen lake":
Over the winter lake I was thrown
A thick ice has formed

The VCR for the LY tour had that same frozen/winter effect as well. Are they connected somehow?
The word "singularity" has very specific meanings...

Just before the song ends, the camera zooms out and we see that Bangtan was inside a snow globe all along. The huge trees in the background were in fact trees outside the snow globe.
No more soot. The charred/calcination phase is over.
There is white snow outside!

But then Bangtan fall down to their "puppet on a string" positions at the end of Black Swan once again. It's exactly the same position they have at the beginning of the song.
They've gone a full cycle for rebirth to happen.
