The sheer arrogance of it: ‘it’s not about you’. FYI, many of those who abhor the language of ‘people with vaginas’ (even faced with this much evidence of disgusting state-sanctioned misogyny, we can’t risk upsetting men with the word ‘woman’) are Irish women 1/ https://twitter.com/fdelond/status/1349396488166715392
They will be survivors of this or relatives of survivors. Every single one of the women sent to the homes was female and this was evidence of how people with female biology are treated by a society that hates them. They weren’t there because they ‘identified as female’ 2/
They were there because when two people have sex, only the female one is punished for its consequences. It has nothing to do with identity and everything to do with inescapable biological reality. By calling them ‘people with vaginas’ you are dehumanising these women 3/
It’s not ‘petty’. You’re trying to downplay the massive oppressive structures in force to keep women in place, which are ultimate rooted in the biological differences between men and women that lead half of the population to be at risk of consequences like this while 4/
the other half could walk away and get on with their lives. You have no business calling yourself a feminist if you dismiss these things or campaign to erase biology. As for the use of TERF, it just shows your huge internalised misogyny to the world. 5/
And as for ‘not now’, well now is the perfect illustration that even when faced with evidence of atrocities committed against women purely because of their sex, you and others are still trying to quiet or slur women who point this out. Misogyny remains alive and well 6/6
