It's very concerning to see many Australians unaware of Aged Care failings as detailed in the Royal Commission's Special Report. Most people don't even know Morrison apologised for these failings (albeit unconvincingly) while disputing the Royal Commission's findings.
I'm seeing people misplace blame, not because they're bad people, but because they just don't know what happened. It seems the only people who know the full story are families of victims, Victorian journalists and many of us on Twitter.
The Aged Care deaths tragically became a political weapon of opportunity to put pressure on a popular Premier to resign. The story of homes being completely abandoned and left for dead by the federal government has never properly been told in the news.
Everyday people aren't to blame for not knowing what happened / thinking it's Dan's fault. It is the Victorian media which failed us. And failed those we've lost. They were even caught on tape admitting this story got swept under the rug.
This year this story needs to be told. It's a painful topic and one many of us would prefer not to confront, but we owe it to the victims of this failed system to ensure their story is told and not forgotten.
