Govt consultation on BTEC reforms seeks to DROP Performing Arts as a qualification. A huge barrier to working class/“non academic” kids accessing not only careers in the arts but also the confidence and perspective drama education provides. It’s unacceptable and needs protesting.
Read and respond to Govt consultation here: https://consult.education.gov.uk/post-16-qualifications-review-team/review-of-post-16-qualifications-at-level-3/ - please especially my incredible friends leading organisations and advocating for change. With thanks to brilliant, passionate @ShazDrama for the heads up.
We mustn’t forget that while Govt focus on STEM eradicates the only funding provision for the arts in state schools, Eton & Harrow continue to bankroll theatre with salaried Resident Director jobs. The elite don’t deny the power of arts education, just working class access to it!
@MattHemley - if you haven’t covered this yet, it’s worth looking into, I think?
