I think this kind of scrutiny is important but they always seem to go one way - Wales (or Scotland) compared negatively when they fall behind. For instance, much was made last month that the 7-day new case rate in Wales was the highest in the UK. 1/ https://twitter.com/BBCWalesNews/status/1349640157897613313
Today the case rate in England and NI outstrips Wales and Scotland by a significant margin, yet we don't see these headlines reversed. There's an inconsistency here where England is always the standard other nations must reach but is never compared with anyone else. 2/
It may not seem important but a flood of negative headlines might distort public understanding and give the impression that Wales is being very badly served rather than the reality which is that daily snapshots of figures don't actually tell you that much out of context. 3/
It's perfectly possible that at some point over the next months, Wales may end up having vaccinated a higher number of the population than England. Will we see a 'UK/England lagging behind Wales' headline at that point? I won't hold my breath! 4/
