Russian @hockey_se published the reasons why #IIHF does not want to relocate the 2021 #IIHFWorlds from Belarus to another country. It would cause a massive economical loses to @IIHFHockey. Details in this thread. #HockeyTwitter
1. #IHF would be obligated to pay financial compensation to Belarus because the deal between the IIHF & Belarus is signed and valid. According to the deal, the IIHF is obligated to host the 2021 Championship in Belarus.
2. Relocating the 2021 IIHF Worlds to another country (DEN/SVK) would bring the costs around 20 mil USD for #IIHF. Latvia can not host all tournament because they do not have enough money & facilities. Hence, the IIHF would need to give some extra money to Latvia.
3. The 2021 IIHF Worlds can not be re-located to Russia due to CAS decision.
4. From an economic point of view, #IIHF could use insurance compensation (again). But, they can not use it 2nd time in a raw (COVID reasons) when other sports are playing. And, the political environment is not a justified reason for granting insurance. So, IIHF would not get it.
According to @hockey_se, the IIHF got around 30 mil USD as insurance payment for the 2020 IIHF Worlds which did not take place due to COVID. But now, most likely the IIHF would not get any money from the insurance company.
