For all my newbie complaints, the thing that drives me crazy is backgrounds. Clean up your background. Wipe the literal DIRT OFF YOUR WALL. Edit out the weird spot that looks like your gross boyfriend punched but couldn’t actually do real damage. Fucking tidy. FUCK
I stg...it’s not that hard to clear a space behind you or edit or blur. Seriously. It’s distracting and it’s bad for business. I’m not trying to be mean, I’m trying to help! Pick a plain wall to take photos, not your stacks of tshirts on shelves or a messy living room...
Almost all of my ad photos I took myself, the only equipment being a tripod for my phone and soft boxes. But I pay attention to every detail and people think they’re professionally shot. I have many years experience but it’s those small things that can elevate you!
Background. Hair. Face. What are you posing on. How are you posing. What’s the focus. What are you wearing. What are your props. Check your angles. Go through a check list each time.
I also like to create scenarios in my mind to get myself into a mindset, like a fantasy I’m projecting even if it’s some basic photos. It makes me feel more connected with the camera and the future audience of my photos.
