A great piece, though this should not come as a surprise. India is EXTREMELY overpopulated, and this poor decision making by the prev generations is going to punish the current 20-50y olds. The num of jobs needed to be high income cant exist.

The ~1-3% of population supports close to 50% of tax collection. If you wanted to raise incomes by making factory/service jobs, there simply isnt enough 'business' for 400m to do while still having high pay. farming is the sink that absorbs this surplus labour

2
farming cant be improved, if you do, you have a lot of jobless unskilled labour. The excess labour means wages are rock bottom and there is no incentive to mechanize or automate- consequently, you're never competitive globally

3
so you cant export to the world to create the demand that in turn would create the jobs. you cant create as many high income jobs locally. so instead politics chooses the easy way out- ration existing resources across caste/religious lines, just enough to get winning votes

4
As Kunal says- the problem is not the car, its the roads. We celebrate "jugaad", that should be used in emergencies as a way-of-life to fill gaps that the govt should have. 70y on, tap water, roads, electricity is still to be done!! absolutely insane.

so if you're looking at any economic numbers, its actually 3 countries in one- a high income small country of 10mil, a low income growing middle class of next ~200mil, and a dirt poor country of 1.2b. averages dont tell you anything.
the high income country gets its income from being competitive and doing business/jobs in manufacturing, IT, exports, tech. its consumption drives the next 200mil. and the rest support this and work in agri.
worrying about corporate monopolies and relative inequality is almost a 1st world luxury. The priority should be to get the current population the bare essentials- literacy, house, nutrition and cut pop growth to zero.
as a random comparison, in 1900, UK population was ~30mil, and Indian subcontinent was ~230, 8x

Today that number is 66m vs 1.7b (IN+PK+BG) 25x!!
finally, if you're mad about this, direct your attention to the dysfunctional feudal politics that worsened it. The people who moved from cat 3 to 2 or 2 to 1 by going to school/coll. and making a living are not the ones responsible, expand the pie, dont redistribute.
