The marriage of Karma & Reincarnation is essential to Hinduism/Dharma and separates them starkly from other religions.

Essentially, K&R solves the problems of fate, "bad things happening to good people," & vice versa.
It's difficult for me to believe in God without K&R.

The sheer horror you read about in history and see on the news is extremely hard to reconcile with "it's all & only God's will"

People are born and live their lives in suffering from moment to moment & die a horrible death...
This is a very common thing in the world today & in the past. And when I mean horrible, I mean disease, poverty, murder, rape, everything

It's easy to sit comfortably in the 1st world & explain losing your iPhone charger or someone you don't like being President as "God's will."
Karma is the spiritual predecessor of Newton's 3rd law - Every action yields an equal & opposite reaction.

However, one cannot possibly live out one's karma in 1 lifetime: Did Hitler suffer for his actions at the end of his life - no, not even close.

Reincarnation answers this.
The soul (or essence) migrates through bodies depending on karma. One answers for their merits & sins in and across lifetimes.

The fruits of karma, whether sweet or rotten, are given by God according to many strands of Dharma.
This also means that karma is cold. It is the only true justice of the world. And that justice is unrelenting.

This doesn't mean Dharma posits showing no compassion/charity to those suffering as they "deserve it," - Dharma is compassion and compassion is its duty.
Karma comes in 3 forms:

-Sanchit: The reservoir of all your karmas.
-Prārabdha: The karmas designated to play out in your current life.
-Kriyāman: The karmas you are creating this life.

Transcendence of karma is one of the paths to moksha.

Sanchit+Prarabdha+Kriyāman = 0.
How does this occur? Transcendence.

The answer varies between sampradāy it seems, but in general, by doing righteous, God-oriented action, the grace of a Guru, self-realization, etc... one transcends karmas and achieves moksha.
Additionally and maybe another definition of this transcendence is Sthitaprajna - equanimity.

While your past karmas hammer down on you, whether good or bad - you don't react.

Gold & dust are equal to you.

Bliss dominates.

Karma is transcended as Peace > reaction to karma.
