if leftists had left anti-Trumpism to the liberals, we'd be completely marginalized at this point. AOC, Bernie, etc understand this.
for one, anti-Trump leftist leaders have managed to extend the critique of Trump to the rest of the GOP, resisting the early centrist impulse to quarantine the Good Republicans from the Bad.
more cynically, anti-Trumpism — even the alarmist variety — has been an extremely potent political brand. By invoking it while continuing to espouse leftist principles, figures like AOC have vastly expanded the constituency (of liberals!) sympathetic to our ideas.
as analytically sympathetic as I am to the arguments of people like Corey Robin, I am very glad, as a political matter, that Bernie Sanders (for example) did not spend the past 4 years saying "Trump is not all that dangerous"
the contribution of left-wing politicians (with a critique of authoritarianism, conservatism, AND neoliberalism) to anti-Trump discourse has massively improved the quality of anti-Trump discourse, while positioning them to have influence in the post-Trump moment.
^^ maybe all this is obvious to you guys, but it just occurred to me
