ive noticed any time trump cultists do something REALLY wrong, like storm the capitol or something, they fall back on these five fallacies/propaganda techniques to defend themselves:

cherrypick
moral equivalence
whataboutism
tu quoque
card stacking propaganda
... tweet 1/
they start with the false premise that "the left" is a monolith like the trump cult is. then they find a single example of "the left" doing something similar (cherrypicking) like a single example of a lone nutcase talking about putting them in camps. 2/
they use that premise to create a moral equivalence. they say "the left is monstrous. nancy pelosi called for violence that one time in 2018" (moral equivalence/tu quoque). but pelosi was outlining a factual problem that needed to be addressed. NOT calling for violence. 3/
then theyll use card stacking propaganda to build up this fictitious image of "the monolithic left" as a giant monster that wants to attack everybody and cite cherrypicked examples. after that, they downplay their own role in everything
in reality, the left is not monolothic like the trump cult. it's largely divided. there's no single representative of the left, like there is for the trump cult. one single example does not equate to trump's constant fear mongering and hatred for 5 straight years
i dont think there's a name for a single propaganda technique/fallacy that describes this process, but i feel like there should be
i need to outline it in GREAT detail and consult with fallacy experts. maybe ill work with them to come up with a name and an accompanying propaganda technique (if it doesnt already exist)
