You guys. I’ve sacrificed 4+ years to caring about what happens to Donald Trump. Believing many times that Republicans might do the right thing. Believing many times that conservative Americans might rally against Trump and do the right thing. 1/7
Believing many times that evangelical Christians might wake up and see that the man they support is like Ahab, Nebuchadnezzar, Herod, an antichrist who uses them for his own enjoyment and mocks them behind their backs. 2/7
Believing many times that members of my family might one day call me to say “Matt were right about that jackass. I’m sorry we supported him.” Believing a few times that surely him organizing a coup will change things... 3/7
It hasn’t changed one damn thing. In the last 4 years, I’ve had to come to terms with the fact much of what I believed about the party, country, church, & family I grew up in wasn’t true. I’ve had to come to terms with the fact that despite my progressive beliefs, I was...4/7
Wrong, naive, misinformed about racism, privilege, misogyny, male privilege, white people, Jesus’s influence on evangelicals, my belief that “good people” take risks and stand up against evil. Over and over again, I’ve believed, prayed, hoped that THIS time would be different.5/7
And it wasn’t different. But one thing that is different is me. I am different than I was 4 years ago. Do not ask me to trust/believe that all of those aforementioned people are going to do the right thing. They won’t. Mitch hasn’t done the right thing in years! I refuse to 6/7
To let Trump steal another day of my time, energy, life-Oh I want him to feel justice, but I want equality, justice reform, health care, pandemic relief, gun legislation, indigenous people heard, climate legislation, etc, so much more. He will not steal my passion another day.7/7
