Throughout the game Sevilla had most of the ball and tried to build up by dropping Fernando (25) between the two CBs, this freed up Navas(16) and Acuna(19) to push down the flanks and Koundè to push high up the pitch.
Suso(7) played as a false-9 and tried to overload the right side of Sevilla attack by joining Ocampos(5) and Navas, while En-Nesyri was shifted to the left flank and had mainly defensive duties.
Atleti defended with a 6-3-1 low block after scoring with their first chance of the match, with Carrasco(21) and Correa(10) dropping near the FBs to defend Sevilla's push down the flanks.
This approach was successful, since Sevilla created their best chances in the early and late stages of the game, but were kept quiet while the match was 1-0, finding it hard to enter the penalty area and being forced to put in tons of crosses (8/37 successful).
When Atleti recovered the ball, they used more of a 4-3-3/5-3-2 fluid system, with Lemar(11) creating passing lanes between the lines and then trying to switch play towards the right flank, where Trippier(23) exploited the space created by Correa who cut inside.
This specific pattern created Atleti's first goal, but also the other chances they created were produced on the right flank, with the lay offs from Trippier to Suaréz in the first half and to Llorente who then assisted Saùl in the second half.
In conclusion, Atleti were cynical to find the net with their first chance after a very good action, then they were happy to sit back and defend their lead until they found the 2-0 with another fine movement.
Sevilla switched the position of their front three to the more usual one at the start of the second half and had a good spell in which they accumulated corners and dangerous set pieces well-defended by Atleti. They were unlucky not to get a goal with few minutes left.
