2 years ago today my life changed forever when I lost my Uncle T who happened to be the closest person in my life.
Since then, his passing has taught me a few things about grief, people and life in general that I’m going to attempt to share concisely in a thread

“The world doesn’t revolve around you” isn’t a true statement.
We each have our own world made up of the people and things that are important to them.
When you lose someone dear you feel like the world has ended yet everyone else is able to carry on as normal.
Don’t be mad.

There is no right way to grieve. Do not allow anyone to police your grief and please don’t do it to others.
There will be great days and there will be shit days.
Except them for what they are and don’t expect grief to be a linear process.

You never truly get over a loss, you just learn to deal with it.
Death shows you the significance and insignificance of life.
Some people are beyond invaluable and their presence/lack of is so impactful.
At the same time we’re all on borrowed time and you never know when it might be the last time you get to experience them.

Be present as much as possible.
We get wrapped up in our phones and our day to day lives and we take the richness of the present for granted.
Make time for people as much as possible in whatever way you can.

No matter how shit the weather may be, the storm will pass.
You’ll look back at the terrible times one day and be amazed at how you thought you’d never get through it.
It shall be well.

Closure can only be given to yourself.
You cannot seek it from others, you have to make peace with yourself.
You cannot seek it from others, you have to make peace with yourself.
You can know someone without actually knowing them.
Give people their flowers while they can still smell them and allow them to show you their complete selfs.
Don’t just force people to live up to the version of them that makes you comfortable.

Be nice to others for no reason but to do it.
It’s a hell of a lot easier way to navigate through life.

It’s easy to take for granted the fact that you take even meaningful people for granted.
Try to catch yourself when you do this because you’ll find it a tough pill to swallow if you leave it too late.

Do what makes you happy. This life is too short to romanticise struggle without making time to actually do the things that will add happiness to your life or to others.
Of course have the means to survive but don’t neglect the important of satisfaction.

Without health, we have nothing.
I’m rambling now but hopefully someone reading this has benefitted.
More than happy to receive any other lessons that people have learnt through their loss.
Stay safe
