It’s an absolutely gorgeous day for my Tāmaki Makaurau tour/soirée - which at the request of adoring fans of urbanism I’ll be tweeting my highlights (and potential lowlights) of!
We’re starting off strong in Mount Albert with Ockham’s Modal - 32 apartments right next to public transport
I love the integration and visibility of the accompanying car sharing and bike storage
Also in Mount Albert, another Ockham, Tuatahi. Loving the design done in partnership with Marutūāhu Iwi - it really highlights that we need to stop viewing public art and amenity as seperate to housing.
The build also does a fantastic job at creating shared communal spaces, fostering connection and community!
Here’s some more medium density being constructed in Mount Albert - perhaps what’s most striking is how much better these higher density dwellings integrate with the streetscape and thus how much nicer they look compared to the single family homes.
Spotted some tactical urbanism like what we’ve just installed in Nelson

A common criticism is that it looks “too temporary”, when really the joy is how quickly it can be rolled out (instantly changing the built environment) and how it provides a pathway to permanent solutions
