Welcome to my thread on Big K.R.I.T, an elite southern hip-hop artist, producer, and my personal favorite.

I will be covering the beginning stages of K.R.I.T's career, an overview of his discography & his overall impact on the rap game.

RT this thread if you liked it! Enjoy :)
Big K.R.I.T aka Justin Scott was born in the bible belt, specifically Mississippi in 1986. Krit has an immaculate catalog of music with 23 projects.
Justin began his musical journey in elementary - junior high school where he learned how to read & write music, and the cello. This is where he developed a producer's mindset.
Growing up, his musical influences were the legends UGK, OutKast, David Banner, CeeLo Green, and more! He developed his own unique southern sound and it brought him deserved fame.
K.R.I.T was originally known for his mixtape catalog and started getting the recognition he deserved after dropping his mixtape K.R.I.T Wuz Here in 2010.
KWH just had the 10 year anniversary in 2020 which was bittersweet. It had so many great tracks like Hometown Hero, Glass House, No Wheaties, and As Small As a Giant.
Now in 2011 K.R.I.T made moves going on a BET cypher with Kendrick Lamar. Here's his verse on it:
Big K.R.I.T was also on the XXL freshman cover in 2011 alongside Kendrick. I'm going to drop both his freestyle & his cypher verse because they are both short & HARD
Did I forget to mention he also looked up to Tupac & Biggie?
In this SAME year, K.R.I.T dropped another incredible mixtape, Return of 4Eva. This tape had ELITE features on it like David Banner, Joi, Ludacris, Bun B, and Chamillionaire! You might as well consider this one an album because it was top tier.
2012 was an insane year because we got both his first studio album Live from the Underground and the mixtape 4Eva N a Day 3 months apart from each other.
We got 4Eva N a Day first, which imo, was one of his best themed projects. He went with the theme of a day in his life; this tape was best enjoyed in the morning for that reason. This tape also had some of K.R.I.T's best production yet.
Live from the Underground featured some immaculate production & the tracklist was nothing short of great. But I want to highlight how he got a LEGEND on this album, B.B King & K.R.I.T was the only hip hop artist who did. Ever.
2013 we get ANOTHER mixtape from Krit, King Remembered in Time (which is what K.R.I.T stands for in his name). This is my favorite tape of his; it delivered some amazing tracks and continued top notch production. I still listen to this tape consistently.
In 2014, K.R.I.T dropped two projects, first being his mixtape See Me on Top 4. The tape itself was alright but this tape was home to K.R.I.T's answer to Kendrick's verse on Control. I'll drop the track for you all to enjoy - Mt. Olympus. Let that buildup break you down.
We then got his second studio album, Cadillactica. This album had an extremely underrated lineup and often doesn't get spoken enough about. I highly recommend checking this project out if you haven't already!
It was also home to one of my favorite K.R.I.T tracks period, Soul Food featuring Raphael Saadiq. Here's a short video of the making of that track!
2015 hits and we get another 2 projects, It's Better This Way and All My Life. IBTW was a great mixtape continuing his themes in previous tapes, while AML was an unfortunate dud.
Unfortunately it was considered as a cash grab & compilation album being forced out by the label RBC. It's not horrible but it's old throwaway tracks that K.R.I.T never fully endorsed to begin with.
Before I get into the latter end of this thread, I want to just throw up a Sway freestyle because K.R.I.T has previously admitted he hates freestyling but he is so humble about it!
2016 hits and K.R.I.T gives us 12 for 12! This tape was INSANE giving us 12 freestyles that are all extremely hard by the way; and they are all over incredible beats from his peers! If you wanna hear spitting, go check it out.
Finally, we arrive at his holy grail - 4Eva is a Mighty Long Time. This album is a masterpiece. Two sided project with some of the best production I've ever heard. It has a mix of funk, blues, jazz, soul, and pure southern hip hop. He had so many elite features on here!
I'll drop this Sway interview covering his album & it also has a freestyle in there too! It's a great listen if you want to hear K.R.I.T's breakdown of the album.
I'll also drop a link to my breakdown of this album if you're interested. https://twitter.com/FriendlyHipHop/status/1342253606674833409?s=20
In 2018, Tiny Desk invited him on to perform some of the tracks from 4Eva and I think this captures the soul Krit has. Here's a short video of that:
2019 we got his compilation project, TDT, which essentially was a combined project of his 3 EP's Thrice X, Double Down, and Trifecta. These EP's were made in 2018.
And last but not least, we got K.R.I.T Iz Here in 2019. This project got mixed reviews; much like Kendrick's project Damn, Krit released this after his holy grail album 4EIAMLT, and people had higher expectations. For what it's worth, I enjoyed it.
Before I end my thread, I want to say this: Give Big K.R.I.T a listen if you haven't had a chance to yet. Go into it with an open mind, he's an artist with an incredible discography. Instead of ending this with a picture, here's a clip of him talking with his father, truly humble
