A tweet from @KhushAndOJ reminded me that, though 2021 is already a dumpster fire, Nice Things are still happening all the time. So, I'm going to share a Nice Thing with you. Maybe it will make you feel Nice. [THREAD]
Last night, I get a text: "Hi, is this Julie?" This is Julia, I responded "Who is this?" It was a man named John. He received a package that I unsuccessfully sent to someone in to LA. "Can you check the address so I can put the proper one on?" he wrote.
We went back and forth for a bit, but couldn't find the solution. It seems the address I had on file doesn't exist, and it wasn't obvious where the mistake was. Eventually, I told John that I appreciated his help, but he shouldn't waste any more time on this.
"Keep the package," I wrote. "It’s a copy of my book! Ha. Enjoy it."
"Are you sure?? I’m happy to help," he said. Yes, yes, I said. "Happy new year." He wished me a happy new year, too, and said he looked forward to checking out the book.
An hour later, I get another message from John. "This book looks great. I am going to regift it to my friend Jennifer who will LOVE this. In the meantime, I just bought another for myself through your Instagram."
Heart emojis ensued, I thanked him, and we said goodbye. And that's all, folks. It was just Nice. <3
