On the morning of 13 January, 1945, companies I and E of the 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne, led an attack on the town of Foy, Belgium.
1/
The town had been fought over since the German offensive began on the 16 Dec, changing hands several times until it was finally captured for the last time by the Allies.
2/
Picture shows the approach into the town. Easy kicked off the attack with 1st & 2nd platoons coming from the west (green & purple) and 3rd platoon from the east (yellow) at about 09.30. Item Co then attacked down the main road at about 10.00 (blue).
3/
There was no radio communication available, so friendly fire was coming at Easy from Item. This led to Lt Ronald Speirs doing his incredible run across the middle of the town (pink line), under fire from the Germans, to liaise with Item.
4/
At 11.00 H Co, HQ 2nd Bn, and F Co's 1st platoon were sent in. The main battle lasted until 16.30. A later German counterattack was pushed back.
