This build was created because our group has a plethora of WW2 20mm and mine was infrequently used. I started with some building that I could winterize. I used PVA and Woodland Scenics Soft Snowflake extensively through this build.
I then built hedges using hanging basket coconut husk and cut them to size. I glued them to a base of Gaterfoam, similar to Foamcore but a stiff foam. I took tweezers and pull the hedge apart to so it looked more wild. I then painted white then Soft Snow Flake.
I already had some rubber roads and winterized them using Soft Snowflake (SSF) PVA and water mixed to make a mash, stuck it on then sprinkled more SSF on top. In the ruts I just put watered down PVA and SSF then scraped them to look like ruts. SSF for the trees I had already.
1st photo, I bought these from Scenic Route Models painted white and added SSN. It's a back yard for an existing house. 2nd photo scratch built fence using coffee stir stick and matchsticks, again added SSF.
I had bought telephone poles at our local con for $5 a big bag full. Based, added some features and SSF. The Haystacks are lids of spray cans painted dark yellow/brown, then glued cut off sections of floor mat, based and SSF.
Here's where I went a little nuts. A friend cut 1/8 plywood on his laser cutter, I drilled holes for the matchsticks 6" and 3" sections. I drilled out the matchsticks to thread the barbed wire through. Painted them white, I built 13' of these, 114 matchsticks drilled twice. Crazy
I put bits of moss on the base then SSF. It's coming together. A couple more test photos.
Sgt. Majors Germans in winter kit. A full Rapid Fire Battalion.
I had trouble finding wagons in 20MM so I asked Glenn at Scenic Route to create these which he did. The welding tanks I created from the parts box German MkIV exhaust pipes. I went to Glenn's website and they are not there? I sent him an email, no answer.
I had vehicles already painted for summer. I gave them all a white wash. I used Vallejo's white wash with extra white paint as needed.
I bought some AB Miniatures British Infantry in leather jerkin, and painted them up. A full Rapid Fire battalion.
I had a 20mm Gulashwagon with a captured Jeep. I also purchased winter tufts from Leadbear and also made scratch built some.
A lot of the ideas for this build were from this book by Pat Smith. Much of the credit belongs to him. I scratch built some fence gates using stir sticks and a horse or cow trough from matchsticks. @AdamPre53040693 @tomjmegan @wargamesodyssey
