Jalen Hurts possesses a lot of upside with his rushing ability and arm strength. He took over for Carson Wentz near the end of the season and had mixed results. His accuracy wasn’t good and he ranked as one of the worst passers in the NFL this season.
His 52 completion% was the worst out of any QB in the NFL(min 60 attempts). His QBR was also terrible with a 41.2 QBR which ranks outside the top 40. So why are people so high on a QB that is among the worst possible passers in the NFL? Well there are pros to Hurts game...
The most obvious one is his rushing ability. He averaged 79.3 rushing yards per game which was even better than Lamar Jackson(67 yards per game). He also averaged 6.4 yards per attempt which was 1st in the NFL. He is only 22 years old and has plenty of time to improve.
He also averaged 282 passing yards per game and and when you combine that with his rushing ability he averages nearly 350 total yards per game. His upside is undeniable if he can improve his accuracy. I often see people say “Hurts has no deep ball” “Hurts has no arm strength”...
Which is completely false. In college he was ranked as one of the top QBs in passes 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. He has shown flashes of that in the NFL too. I have put together a video which highlights his best deep throws of 2020. Hurts isn’t a “running back”.
In fantasy for 2021 I would regard Hurts as a low-end QB1 with extreme upside. I would not be surprised to see him finish in the top 7 for fantasy QBs. I would advise pairing him with a solid high floor QB such as Brady, Mayfield, Cousins or Carr.
