Maynard says Lions Gate was asked to open mail because #MengWanzhou was receiving threatening mail at the time ... claims individuals had made threats or made claims of a relationship (this was all in June and July of 2020)
He says they were working with Vancouver police hand in hand to investigate ... there were bullets inside the envelopes - and they made sure to ensure that evidence as best as they could ... 5 or 6 letters in total
The staff of #MengWanzhou would come out and confirm that the threats were coming from the same individual or individuals
This is the first we are hearing of any of this - so to recap. The VPD investigated a series of threatening letters - including one containing bullets - that were sent to #MengWanzhou last summer
Maynard is done testifying ... no more witnesses
Judge asks whether one of the principals of the security company would continue to agree to be a surety for #MengWanzhou bail would continue to agree to that IF he changes the order
And he asks - "isn't it relevant for me to know" if any of the original sureties will continue to be a surety - so support the release - before he grants any changes.
Essentially says the bail was originally drawn up with the idea being that if #MengWanzhou was to be released on the promise a security firm could make sure she didn't flee- then it made sense to have a principal of that company put up money to say he believed it was a good idea
But #MengWanzhou lawyer says she'll check on that over the noon break. Judge says she should because "If there's a failure (the head of the security firm faces) personal consequences"
To recap - this is kind of interesting - because it means that the security firm that objects to #MengWanzhou application to vary her bail would have a kind of veto on the proposal
Judge says he will reserve a decision on the application - so they need to figure out a date for him to deliver ... maybe end of January
And that's it until after lunch!
