As someone who lives in Asheville, I don't think we talk enough about the portion of the natural health/anti-vax "liberal" crowd that voted red because of their fear of losing "medical freedoms." The anti-science intersection between these two groups is there.
There is also an intersection among these two groups in their way of thinking of self-preservation over the good of the collective.
I say this as someone who has been on the paleo diet for health reasons, occasionally shops at wholefoods, and who loves so much about this region. I just can't help but notice some of the "me vs us" and rejection of science-based evidence overlaps.
I only bring this up because I think as we try to weed out disinformation and gear up the national vaccine program, it needs to be recognized that different messaging may work for different groups.
