I wish we would all accept that humans are selfish, and it’s not always a bad thing.

Everything about suicide, and I mean even those for and against it, is drenched in selfishness. Those who think of or want to commit suicide are selfish because why not? It’s them going through
the pain, suffering, anguish that overwhelms their minds/body/life.

Those of you who don’t want people to commit suicide are also selfish. **YOU** don’t want them to commit suicide; you’re not really thinking about them, you’re more focused on the fact that you don’t want them
to go (which isn’t a bad thing btw). YOU are also thinking about the suicidal person’s loved ones (also not a bad thing), and those loved ones in turn are also thinking about the impact the loss of a loved one would have on them.

It’s all selfishness. Selfishness borne out of
genuine love and concern, selfishness borne out of pain and depression.

My point is please let’s dead this narrative of making suicidal people look/feel bad by calling them selfish. It’s insanely myopic and hypocritical because we’re all selfish. It’s part of being human.

I’m
not pro-suicide or anything. Suicide saddens and scares me. But I acknowledge the absurdity and overwhelming harshness of our existence, and so I fully understand why people feel the need to exit it.
