. @nppaulc makes the important point that your website is your shop window - it’s open 24/7, 365 days a year. Visitors can come to you when it suits them
Big question: how do you make a successful online presence?
It’s so important to be clear from the outset what you’re doing and what the focus of your structure and content is
Keep your website simple at the start. It can expand as time goes on and needs to be both manageable and maintain it. Keep your content up-to-date
To start your ideas start with a postor note or a piece of paper to draw your website out. How do you envisage your website to look?
Like architects and builders, you wouldn’t just knock down walls - there are plans and considerations and a website should be no different
An important component is your domain name - this is your web address. Each will have a different ending - there are a number you can use
For #localhistory society your ending needs to have relevance to what your site is doing. These have to be unique - you can’t have two people with the same domain names
IMPORTANT - domain names need to be renewed (top tip not to forget!)
Continuity is vital. Domain name should be in your society’s name.
Domain names can also be used for your email
