At the Liaison Committee just now, Boris Johnson claimed that the ‘no recourse to public funds’ rule is for people “who are here illegally or unlawfully”. That’s completely wrong. It’s imposed on migrants’ visas.
. @LibDems’ @AMCarmichaelMP responds: “It is outrageous and wrong for the Prime Minister to suggest that the NRPF rule is aimed at people who are in the UK unlawfully. He should know that it’s a standard condition imposed on most people who come to live and work here on a visa…
“Since the start of the pandemic, @LibDems have been urging Priti Patel to suspend the rule for the duration of the crisis, so migrants – like everyone else – are given the financial support they need to stay at home. It’s long past time for the Govt to make this vital change.”
