THREAD TIME
just some random thoughts about what might happen to Sam now that he's possessed by TOBA
Al Ewing made it clear several time (Samson even reminded it to us in this issue) that death is actually not a punishment, it is most likely a "reward", immortality, coming back
Al Ewing made it clear several time (Samson even reminded it to us in this issue) that death is actually not a punishment, it is most likely a "reward", immortality, coming back
from the dead being, actually, the true punishment. And that's what's happening for Sam now, he's still alive but he's possessed. That's his punishment for everything he has done. He said it himself back in the 2000s that death was peaceful, to the point he wanted to die
to reach some kind of eternal peace. And we know Al Ewing based his Sam on this run, we'll talk about this later.
Anyway, so Sam is still very alive and probably suffering a lot considering what Brian went through when the same thing happened to him.

And Sam's time is running out, because remember this from Immortal Hulk 12 and 25 (25 happened billions of years later).
In the Present TOBA says "they are me, I am them", so they're still "here". In the Future, however, he is alone, they're not here anymore. So for now Sam is
In the Present TOBA says "they are me, I am them", so they're still "here". In the Future, however, he is alone, they're not here anymore. So for now Sam is
"here". TOBA will "wear" him like a "mask" as said several time too, he will probably behave like Sam, act like Sam, because it's still "Sam". But the real Sam we know, is no more (for now). It's litteraly a possession, Sam with TOBA's will, not his, Sam being TOBA's puppet
His body, memories, knowledge in TOBA's hands.
Speaking of which, let's not forget that Sam is, for now, the only one who has the knowledge to either prevent the Future from happening or make it happen.
He chose to make it happen because of this moment : https://twitter.com/LirhyaPetitPain/status/1349330113020760065

We all knew Sam was going to be TOBA's vessel at some point, it was hinted several times already. TOBA uses hate, Sam is consumed by his hatred, he was the only perfect vessel for TOBA to helps him reach his final goal.
But I don't think (and I don't hope) it ends here for Sam, I think he might still have an important role to play in this run. The moment he let his hate consuming him, leading him to this possession, is this one, from the run we mentionned a few tweets above :
and Ewing already used it again in IH 34 to show Sam's POV, I posted it above too in a quoted tweet. And we know very well he always write thing for a reason. Immortal Hulk is full of foreshadowing. So having Sam's very last moment before his possession being this is important :
His faith is, once again, in Bruce's hand. Just like it was when he asked him for help before he embraced his hatred.
And just like Brian stood here because he's still "here", Sam will probably still be "here" but, like Brian, as a TOBA "minion". Not being able to be fully

himself anymore. And yet, yet even if he was helping TOBA so far (we still don't really know why), even if he's the bad guy consumed by his hatred, he's still the only one who knows how to stop TOBA. So what now? Maybe he left a note or something that can lead Bruce to this
knowledge in case something like that would happen. Maybe somehow Bruce will be able to "reach" him and Sam will be able to help him from, like, "inside" of TOBA.
There's something very important for Sam and Bruce's relationship in that run we mentionned twice already

and if Sam is based on this run, then of course Ewing have this important moment in mind. Actually that's why Sam felt so hurt when Bruce "rejected" him.
And this is important because the mythology Immortal Hulk is based on is about two brothers as well and so are several
And this is important because the mythology Immortal Hulk is based on is about two brothers as well and so are several
good vs evil stories (which is exactly what Immortal Hulk is about, what is the true evil, what is good, what is God, what is the Devil etc...) and ever since the begining of Immortal Hulk, Sam is meant to be Bruce's opposite (One of Bruce alter is DEVIL Hulk, Sam is called GOD)
(Bruce was approached by TOAA, Sam by TOBA etc... the ying and the yang).
But considering this interview, an interview that highly talked about issue 42 I think Sam might eventually still play a role in TOBA's defeat.

We know his temper, of course he'll want revenge at any cost (ANY COST, he probably won't survive this run anyway) so I really wouldn't be surprised if he did prepare something in case something like that would happen or if he, somehow, manage to team up with Bruce. We'll see
what the future hold for him but it's probably not the end of his role yet. He's kinda like a damsel in distress now, waiting for his Prince to save him...
ANYWAY that's all for now, maybe I'll add things later if something goes back to my mind.
