Some initial ramblings on remote learning and how far we've come as a profession.

I've been involved in planning our remote learning strategy since August (although we didn't call it that back then) but today was the first time I'd delivered to a full class online.
I'm so proud of myself and how teachers have responded to this challenge.

It took me longer to prepare for my lesson today than normal, but it was important that lesson one went well. I'll get better at it.
I really missed interracting in person, but we are where we are.

It was important to me that I checked in emotionally with the yp. I did it 3 times during the 1 hour lesson. That should be the norm. I'll continue to build that into lessons once things return to 'normal'.
I'm so glad we discovered @PearDeck as it has allowed for real-time feedback and check-ins. I felt more connected to my class and was able to identify and support anyone who was struggling, quietly and sensitively.
It feels like the efforts and investments in digital learning we have gone through over the past few years are coming to fruition. Tech is enhancing the experience. Our 70 teachers delivering live content to 1000 young people at home would not have been possible a few years ago.
Everyone kept their camera and mics off today. I'm going to use breakout rooms next time to see if they are more comfortable with that. It's important that we maintain a sense of community.
Across my authority, we were prepared. Teachers and young people (from P5 to S6) were given devices and WiFi. That needs to be the norm and it saddens me that it's not.
Conversations with colleagues are focussed on pedagogy more than technology. That's how it should be but it takes time.
We must capture the sunshine that's come from the storm.
The content we are producing now can be used again and again.

Attendance and engagement has increased since lockdown one. Whilst nobody wanted to be back in this position we have been preparing for it for months. We shifted our entire school online and that's no mean feat.
Our entire approach is one of nurture and support. The voice and rights of our young people lie at the heart of what we do.
Our values drive us to go above and beyond.
Teaching is the best job in the world.

Cameras and chat today! It was really good to check in and see real people.
