For those who were unable to attend today’s webinar on “Good Social Work in the Time of Covid-19” hosted by @unisontheunion @uniofedinburgh some highlights in this thread.

Around 230 people attended today’s webinar, which focused on “raising the debate from critical and radical perspectives on some of the pressing social work issues in Scotland today” with guest speakers @fionathepromise @avrilmcivor2 and @KateUNISON.
Fiona Duncan reminded delegates of the very simple truth - Scotland can't afford not to #KeepThePromise. The Promise will ultimately make itself obsolete because Scotland will keep this promise.
@avrilmcivor2 "It isn’t our young people’s issues that have drained resources. It’s the lack of investment in local authorities and our third sector colleagues over decades.”
Kate Ramsden and colleague Laura Stewart shared an incredible video produced by Young People's Organising and Campaigning group (YPOC). Watch the video here:
YPOC’s video highlights what young people need out of the care system: better communication, placements that meet individual needs, time to settle, recognition of the importance of school, the people around them sharing a common goal to support them, and always being listened to.
YPOC says the care system needs to
INVOLVE young people in recruitment and training of the people that work with them.
PREPARE young people by giving them information and showing them where they’ll be staying before they go.

Kate shared the troubles facing many social workers right now. “Many said they felt undervalued, and were struggling to deal with the demands placed upon them.” Click here to read the full report that Kate spoke to: https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/research-resources/2020/challenges-from-the-frontline
@ThePromiseScot will share any further resources as soon as available.
