Whether this is accurate or not, politicised or not, it is a massive problem for @Chartwells_UK

And it's cultural...

It has to have been for someone to pack and deliver that box of crap to anyone and not think it was in their power or responsibility to challenge or change it https://twitter.com/BeckettUnite/status/1348919748873039873
Before any fiasco like this is brought to light, it takes actions or inaction by dozens of people in a business.

There is the procurement team, focusing on cost.
The finance team focusing on margin.
The operations team focusing on efficiency.
The HR team focused on ???
We all know, as humans, that the pile of crap in that box was a heartless insult... but the system at Chartwells created it anyway. Who was looking out for the children?

No-one. Because a culture of cost, profit, efficiency and "customer value" ran wild.
And not one person in the system felt able or responsible for saying "Hey, hang on! This is a pile of crap"

The value statement on the Chartwells twitter bio means sweet FA if the culture doesn't support it. It's just PR fluff.
If feeding children really was their primary mission, and not delivering shareholder returns, then the people at Chartwells would be focused on it, they'd know they could speak up and act in service of it.

But it isn't. Like lots of orgs, the marketing team ran amok with values
...and because they weren't real, they weren't delivered.

And kids suffered as a result.

The work you do in HR and Comms matters. Leadership and Culture matters.

Rant over.
