There are many reasons that raising #txlege office budgets is good. Brain drain and the loss of institutional knowledge is a persistent threat at the Capitol. There’s a reason so many people end up in the lobby - only a minority % of lege staff can earn a stable living wage.

Offices are also further divided between the haves and have nots if you’re a committee chair with increased budget and an extra salary cap exemption. Those more senior members have the resources to maintain staff, other members have a MUCH harder time doing that. #txlege

And to be clear, committee chairs DO need the extra budget because of the extra work, but that doesn’t have to come at the expense of a majority of other members, staff, and districts. #txlege
