This is a distraction. Eliminating the test affects a tiny portion of 4 year olds & for only one year. It kicks the can down the road for another year and leaves the decision up to the next mayor.
Can we talk about the bleeding emergency facing education instead? https://twitter.com/DOEChancellor/status/1349178075297280004

Right now, 148 school buildings are closed for 10 days because of the outdated and pointless 2 case closure rule. Another 119 buildings are closed for 24 hrs, most of which will likely be extended to 10 day closures. 1,015 classrooms are closed.
To remind you, NOWHERE else in NY State do schools have to close for 10 days for 2 positive cases. This rule is unique to NYC because - why? Is our city too dirty to have school the way nice, clean, white suburbs have school?
Hybrid kids have no required live instruction on their remote days. The city is content to allow their teachers to say, Here are some videos and a worksheet, go play Fortnite for 7 hrs.
Teachers are being prioritized for vaccination but there is NO PLAN on how schools will change once all teachers are vaccinated (about 2 months). Remote teachers w/ accommodations until June are being prioritized - why? Are we bringing them back to work in person?
Middle schools and high schools are still closed with no plans to reopen, even as their teachers line up to get their prioritized vaccine. Can these schools be reopened after teachers are vaccinated? No one knows. No one will say. No one is asking. Big mystery!
But sure let's talk about a bunch of privileged 4 year olds who can't take the G&T test this year. This is obviously the most pressing education issue facing our city right now.
