I've been noticing a correlation between men's style and contemporary architecture lately, and I'd love to get takes from @wrathofgnon and @Arch_Revival_ on this.
One of the first things I teach my clients is that, irrespective of your style archetype, beginners tend to overemphasize pattern, and color. Experts will lean more on texture, fit, and quality.
Doesn't mean there isn't room for those things, but they're not the primary focus.
Beginners will also over-rely on pattern and color to the exclusion of physique, body language, and grooming.

Now, so much of the old architecture that many of us admire and love (myself included) is also very pattern and color dependent. It's ornate, intricate, and very detailed.
There's a level of mastery that we don't even try to approach today.

And what we do see more and more of now is a focus on clean, simple lines and spaces that allows for an emphasis on different textures.
This may be a complete coincidence, but I don't think that's the case. I imagine there's some causal thing going on that both have in common.
